Enhanced Nutritional Quality of Sweet Maize Kernel in Response to Cover Crops and Bio-Fertilizer

چکیده

Cover crops (CC) are an important low-input strategy in sustainable agricultural systems. The impact of different CC (common vetch, field pea, winter oats, fodder kale, common vetch + oats and pea oats), organic mulch, control treatment-fallow, bio-fertilizer (BF) application, on yield quality sweet maize kernel was evaluated. biomass higher mixtures: as well kale. Kernel its chemical composition varied significantly by CC, BF, year, their interaction. Organic mulch enhanced the concentration sugars glutathione kernel. BF increased yield, sugars, vitamin C, Mg, Fe, Zn, reduced phytate concentration. highest Mg Mn achieved with Zn Fe oats. same treatments expressed variability phytate, phenolics, yellow pigment, thus affecting further bio-availability essential elements. Results indicate that a semi-arid climate, under rain-fed conditions, such kale could enhance productivity quality, serving part cropping system, to facilitate food security.

Response of Maize to Cover Crops, Fertilizer Nitrogen Rates, and Economic Return

17 Maize is the world’s most widely grown cereal on the basis of Mg produced (FAO, 2014). Nitrogen fertilizer applied to cropland is a considerable portion of the cost and energy input associated with nonlegume crop production (Liebman et al., 2012). When N is lost from cropland, it represents both a fi nancial loss to producers and has a potentially negative impact on the environment (Vetsch a...

The effects of different autumn-seeded cover crops on subsequent irrigated corn response to nitrogen fertilizer

A common crop rotation in the west Iran is wheat-fallow-corn. The fallow period after wheat harvest (during fall and winter) can lead to soil erosion, nutrient losses (e.g. nitrate leaching) and offsite movement of pesticides. This period is an ideal time to establish a cover crop. In order to investigate the effects of different autumn-bseeded cover crops on subsequent irrigated corn response ...
